5/15/2024 0 Comments Graduations served their purposeGraduation season brings a mixed bowl of emotions for me. Each provided different set of challenges.
Holt High School in 1988 ended a long road with me for most of the class. Many of them I began kindergarten at Cottondale Elementary School and went through 12th grade. Others i joined up at seventh grade and went through the next five years. Of course, the bond was stronger with the Cottondale kids than the Holt Elementary ones, although I love them dearly. Only one person joined me at Stillman College, which came with a new set of friends, One-third of the Class of 1992 did not make it. Others graduated at other places. I look back and smile with pride over my two graduations. I ended up with 3.2 GPA in high school and college, finding a stellar newspaper career of 32 years.

On one hand, Shirley Jones gave birth to me October 18,1969 around 4:44 a.m., all eight pounds, nine ounces of me. I stayed with 20 months until she married Clarence Bishop on August 8, 1971. My sister, Sheryl Jones and I were signed over to our grandmother, Clara Jones, who raised five kids, five of her brother's and six grandchildren. My sister had six years with her. I did not get two years to live with her. My brother, Andre Bishop, was born in 1979. He did not want kids not his along and it was her fault. I'm in love with a woman and if we wed, her teenage daughter comes along. One of my girls don't like that, but oh well. On the other hand, I was middle child and never did anything to satisfy her. Whenever other relatives made me the butt of their jokes, she joined in. Even at her funeral on February 22, 1995, I was not mentioned by the pastor delivering the eulogy. I felt so cheap, like they found me in a garbage can. I never got over that and probably take it with me to the grave. It was not pastor's fault, although I knew him for years and years. My mother probably did not mention me like she did my brother and sister to him. I never blamed my brother or sister for her shortcomings, especially before she got lowered into the ground. One of the few things the ex-wife said I agree with, "God saw fit to bless you." The reason we did not work out because our union was like, "Good Times" (without John Amos) meeting "Family Matters" (without Urkel). She had parents and I virtually was an orphan. Happy Mother's Day to women around the world. 5/1/2024 0 Comments Patience can be difficultFor the last few years, I have quietly assembled a portfolio on IMDB.com. I have collected awards like a kid collecting baseball cards.
I have read and seen various stories on the internet about taking the next step. Some say be aggressive. Others say let the game come to you. By no means, am I a finished product. I've got a long way to go before hitting the big screen. I just want an opportunity. |
